Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Jan. 17th

Celebrated on the third Monday of January each year

Martin Luther King Jr. Day (officially Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., and sometimes referred to as MLK Day) is a federal holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. Born in 1929, King's actual birthday is January 15.

King was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination in 1968. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed three years later. At first, some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000

Emergency Preparedness Notice to Campus Community

Check to ensure your contact information is current in your ASURE account. You need to keep your contact information current in your accounts all the time, as the university uploads contact information from these systems to RAVE, on a regular basis. In Asure, click on EE INFO, then EMPLOYEE INFORMATION and verify that your email, phone number, address and emergency contact information is up to date. This is a necessary precondition to keep yourself safe during any emergency situation.

Because people react to an emergency situation at the level they are informed and trained, we invite you to take some time in the next few days to read our emergency evacuation and response procedure (see links below.) Getting familiar with our emergency procedures will enable you to better understand the context of any future RAVE Alerts and then respond to a dangerous situation in a more informed and adequate way.

Donating Warm Winter Clothing to ComPro Students

New ComPro students are arriving at MIU. mainly from warm climates, and may not have anywhere at home to buy the kind of warm clothing that is needed for our Iowa winters. So, if you have any warm jackets, hats, scarves, or gloves/mittens that you do not use and are in fairly good condition, we would be grateful for these to be donated to our students. This will help them adjust to the shock of the cold weather and keep them warm and healthy.  Please bring what you have to Verrill Hall, room 12 or 14. Thank you very much.

For all of us at the David Lynch Foundation, this new year brings gratitude and hope. To us, gratitude looks like you – our community. Thank you. We approach the year ahead with renewed commitment, passion, and optimism because your support in 2021 helped us to new heights of accomplishment.

For example, thanks to you,

  • More than 1,000 frontline healthcare workers at 43 hospitals nationwide learned Transcendental Meditation® through DLF grants. The DLF also invested in research at eight university medical centers where studies are being conducted on the impact of the meditation on health and resilience. For example, this newly published study, conducted at Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School, found TM® to be helpful for emergency medicine clinicians and providers during the COVID-19 pandemic and led to a decrease in burnout and mental health symptoms.
  • Nearly 500 veterans will soon participate in the largest study ever conducted on meditation and veterans with PTSD at nine VA hospitals and research universities. Outcomes will be used to help secure federal funds for the 500,000 vets with PTSD to learn TM for free.

We have bold plans for 2022 because our mission to serve the most at-risk populations matters more now than ever before as the whole country faces escalating levels of toxic stress and anxiety. Your support empowers our resolve to heal this trauma and promote wellness and resilience for all.

As a thanks to you, we invite you to participate in our twice-daily TM group meditation calls. We hope these calls bring peace and power to your personal practice in addition to meaningful connection, knowing thousands of others are meditating alongside you.

On behalf of the entire DLF team, thank you again for your incredible kindness and generosity.

New Course! Transformation to an Ideal World through Maharishi's Total Knowledge with Raja Peter Starts January 15

12-Lesson Course Taught by Dr. Peter Warburton

In 1975, Maharishi proclaimed the "Dawn of the Age of Enlightenment" and said that Natural Law rising towards "Sat-yuga" will be reflected in changes in every single aspect of life of all the species on this planet. Through the years he spelled out the nature of these transformations in great detail, including:

  • How will our personal relationships change, our health, our work, agriculture and our food supply, the world around us, government, international relations?
  • How will the ecosystem of our whole planet change, and our connection to the wider universe?

During this 12-lesson course, it will be a joy to take this journey with Maharishi and explore the vision of reality of a time when higher consciousness completely rises to its fullness both individually and collectively in the world.

Course Dates: Tuesday and Saturday afternoons, January 15 – February 22, 2022.

Take Your Experience to the Next Level with an Advanced Technique of the TM Program

Saturday Jan. 29th at the Maharishi Peace Palace

The purpose of Advanced Techniques is to take the experience to another, higher level. Advanced Techniques are like fertilizers; fertilizers bring better fruit to every tree. To enjoy greater achievement and fulfillment in life, take advantage of this beautiful program of Advanced Techniques to enrich the development of higher states of consciousness.” —TM Founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are Advanced Techniques?

A: Like the TM technique, Advanced Techniques are easily-practiced mental techniques that accelerate personal growth. During TM, we experience a fourth state of consciousness, a state of restful alertness that dissolves stress, enhances brain functioning, and balances the body and emotions. Advanced Techniques speed up the integration of this state with our regular daily activity, bringing faster results from our TM practice.

Q: How many are there?

A: There are four Advanced Techniques brought to light by Maharishi in his Vedic Science and Technology, the Science and Technology of Consciousness. The first is practiced for a few minutes before going to sleep. The second, third, and fourth Advanced Techniques are effortlessly incorporated into your twice-daily TM practice.

Q: Do I learn them all at once or one at a time?

A: One at a time and in sequence. You’ll practice an Advanced Technique at least two to four months before adding the next one.

Q: Who teaches the Advanced Techniques?

A: Specially trained, highly experienced certified TM teacher Mario Orsatti has been teaching the TM technique since 1973 and the Advanced Technique courses for the last 4 years. He is the Executive Director of the Center for Health and Wellness at the David Lynch Foundation, where he oversees TM programs for government and military leaders in Washington, D.C., and for business executives in New York City. He will be present at each session for instruction and verification.

Q: Who can learn, and how do I know if I’m ready?

A: You must have practiced TM regularly, twice a day, for a minimum of the last two months to be eligible to apply for an Advanced Technique. Each technique is simple—easy to learn, easy to practice—and, best of all, enjoyable! That said, if you’d like our advice regarding your personal readiness, just give us a call.

Q: What is the course structure?

A: The course consists of three sessions:

  • First, an orientation meeting (1½ hours)
  • Second, personal instruction in the appropriate Advanced Technique (2–3 hours)
  • Third, a checking meeting the following day to answer questions and verify the correctness of your practice (2 hours)

Orientation: An orientation meeting is an opportunity to learn more about Advanced Techniques. It is free, and there is no obligation to take the course. But if you want to learn an Advanced Technique at this time, you must attend the orientation meeting and then fill out an application form. Here is the schedule of orientation meetings:

Friday, Jan. 28th  2PM

Personal Instruction: Saturday Jan. 29th

Checking Meeting: Sunday Jan. 30th 9:30am & 11am

Q: How do I begin?

A: Please choose one of the orientation meetings, and respond by email at wdevasier@tm.org or call 641-919-8188 or 641-919-1300. If the orientation meeting times don’t work for you, let us know, and we will find another time to meet with you.

Join Us at the “Genius Lounge”

Welcome to the “Genius Lounge,” a new audio series with Bob Roth, CEO of the David Lynch Foundation, author of the NY Times bestseller, “Strength in Stillness,” and 50-year teacher of Transcendental Meditation®.

Why do we call it Genius Lounge?

This audio series focuses on the genius of nature, from microscopic to macroscopic, including the genius of the human brain and body. The name was inspired by brain researchers who have identified key networks within the brain that underlie and foster the creative process. One such network is the “Default Mode Network,” which has also been called the “Imagination Network” and the “Genius Lounge.” Innovation gets its start here—and the practice of Transcendental Meditation accelerates the process by strengthening the creative networks within the brain and by removing the restrictive impact of stress.

In each episode, Bob shares a few minutes of exciting research findings on the brain, ancient and modern insights into consciousness, and/or inspiration to live a healthier, happier life.

Celebrating January 12th - Special Gift

On our traditional January 12th celebration we are filled with gratitude to Maharishi for the showers of enlightening knowledge and experience that are transforming our lives and the world.

In honor of this day enjoy this eBook featuring two very special lectures by Maharishi in 1964 from Bad Mergentheim, Germany.

The eBook is divided into two sections. The first features text from 'Thirty Years Around the World’ in which Maharishi answers the question, ‘How do we make the grace of God come to us?’

The second section is an excerpt from a rare lecture from that same course in which Maharishi speaks about the love and will of God. The audio and text for this second section begins on page 27.

We highly recommend viewing it on a computer with Google Chrome as this gives a very full and enjoyable experience. Please turn the pages slowly and wait for the audio bar to begin playing on the selected pages with audio.

To view more eBooks, please click here. We kindly request not to repost this eBook or any of the pictures in the eBook on any social media platforms.

From the tradition of Shri Shankaracharya

He is the disciple just like the Master:

Destroyer of tamas of the inner Self, King of Rishis,

And from the darkness of the people He is the bestower of light.

Greatest of the great, greater than greatness,

He is indeed the reason for the welfare of the tradition.

Bestower of the calmness in the three layers of existence,

Incarnation of Yoga, indeed of Shankara,

Whose speech is true speech, Whose demeanor is precise,

Whose actions are compassionate, Whose fame is compelling,

In the world of all men He is the inner Self.

The course of His speech is the incarnate form of Indra. the Creator.

O Mahesh Yogi, let Your benevolence be extended unto me,

Great Rishi, King of Rishis, Rishi of Gods.

From the light of the Himalayas to the level of the plains

He resides in the midst of Shankaracharya Nagar.

The Treasure within Us: Discovering the Core Message in the World’s Spiritual Traditions | 50:03

A conversation with Craig Pearson, Ph.D.

Craig Pearson, Ph.D., is the author of The Supreme Awakening: Experiences of Higher States of Consciousness Throughout Time—and How You Can Cultivate Them. Throughout history, great men and women have described exalted experiences—moments of extraordinary wakefulness, inner freedom, and happiness—as different from our ordinary waking experience as waking is from dreaming.

The second edition of Dr. Pearson’s popular book contains more experiences of awakening to Cosmic Consciousness

Dr. Pearson discusses his decades of research on these experiences and gives us a glimpse of what he has discovered in the writings of people like Laozi, Plato, Rumi, St. Teresa of Avila, Emerson, Emily Dickinson, Black Elk, and Einstein—people who have described experiences that rank among the most inspiring in all of literature.

He helps us recognize that these experiences of higher levels of human functioning are growing in our own lives through our daily practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique.

Dr. Pearson speaks around the United States and internationally on the topic of human development and higher states of consciousness. He has a B.A. from Duke University, an M.A. in Writing from the University of Iowa, and a Ph.D. from Maharishi International University, where he currently serves as a member of the faculty and Vice President of Academic Affairs

Billionaire Ray Dalio credits his success to 40 minutes of meditation per day — here’s how he does it Dec 20 2021 By Jade Scipioni

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - NOVEMBER 30: Bridgewater Associated founder Ray Dalio visits “Mornings With Maria” hosted by Maria Bartiromo at Fox Business Network Studios on November 30, 2018 in New York City.

Long before it was cool, Ray Dalio credited his financial success to a simple practice: a daily meditation.

Twice per day, the 72-year-old billionaire closes his eyes and repeats a short mantra in his head for 20 minutes at a time, he tells CNBC Make It. It’s a practice known as Transcendental Meditation (TM), which Dalio says he adopted in 1969 — six years before he founded Westport, Connecticut-based hedge fund Bridgewater Associates.

Over the following five decades, Dalio built Bridgewater into the world’s largest hedge fund before stepping down as co-CEO in 2017. Today, Bridgewater manages more than $150 billion in assets.

Since stepping down, Dalio says he’s been on a mission to widely share the knowledge that helped enable his success. That includes his meditation practice, which he once called “the single most important reason for whatever success I’ve had.”

Here’s an inside look at those meditations, and how Dalio says they help:

Scientists focus efforts to alleviate symptoms

Jenni Smith December, 2021

“First line”

An ancient technique may also help to alleviate PTSD symptoms. This is what American scientists show. “Transcendental Meditation is an easy-to-learn, non-trauma-focused therapeutic resource. That’s why we decided to evaluate its performance in patients with past trauma,” explains Mayer Bellehsen, director of Northwell Health, a US behavioral health center for military and veterans. your families.

In their work, Bellehsen and his team selected 40 war veterans with PTSD and divided them into two groups. Half participated in 16 Transcendental Meditation sessions over 12 weeks. The other part kept only the standard treatment, with medication and therapy. It was found that the first group had a considerable reduction in complications related to the disorder, such as sleep problems and symptoms of depression — anxiety, low mood, among others — when compared to the second.

“The current study supports the effectiveness of this technique as a first-line treatment for these trauma patients. It is a tool that is proven to be effective based on solid evidence. It is another option to help those who do not want to be involved in trauma. activities focused on trauma or that are not responding to other standard treatments”, defends Bellehsen. “This intervention does not require an extensive review of the traumatic history, which some individuals find difficult to engage with. Meditation may therefore be more tolerable for some individuals struggling with PTSD.”

Here is that significant study, which was published earlier this year: Transcendental Meditation effective in reducing veterans’ PTSD, sleep difficulties, depression and anxiety symptoms by 50% in 3 months: new study.
