Golden Jubilee - Help Needed!

The planning of the Golden Jubilee Celebration (April 29 – May 3) is coming along, and many people are now busy preparing. However, more help is needed. Everyone has a fulltime job and has only limited time to put in. More hands would make lighter work. We need people now to join us, but we also will need many people to help during the actual days of celebration. Many, many things will need to be coordinated and attended to during this festive and historic weekend.

Some needs are:

·       Help in Archives sorting and cataloging historic slides

·       Helping with campus tours

·       Setting up a community picnic

·       Hosting faculty presentation sessions

·       Helping with invitations

·       Developing promotional materials and website

·       Campus decorations

Here is the basic schedule:

· Friday, April 29 is a travel day with a Welcome Dinner that evening for those arriving from out-of-town.

· Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday will be packed with events. Tuesday is the day of Lasting Achievements in the Vedic Calendar and, among other great events, Raja Howard Settle will break ground for the total reconstruction of Utopia Park—to be renamed “Global Peace Village.”

· Wednesday, May 4th will be a travel day with an optional breakfast for those still in Fairfield.

Among the Many Highlights:

· Tours of our newly renovated Campus and surrounding areas

· Keynote address by Dr. Tony Nader (Raja Raam)

· Evening Fireworks

· The story of how MIU was founded—presented by the people who were there with Maharishi

· Special historic presentations by Dr. Bevan Morris

· Special reunion events for our legacy classes

· Entertainment greats from the past and present (Surprise!)

· University President John Hagelin and MIU Faculty present the latest remarkable achievements, and lay out a vision of our future

· Daily International Food Festivals

· Special events for Computer Professional students

· ….and much much more

Protect yourself from payment scams

Here’s what some of the latest scams look like:

  1. Impersonating an associate from a company you may be doing business with. Scammers will ask you to provide your personal information or even transfer money by phone, text or email. They might also use a fake caller ID that could show up as the business name. When in doubt, hang up the phone and call the company directly.
  2. Pay yourself. Scammers may contact you impersonating an established individual or company and tell you that they have noticed suspicious activity, such as money being sent from your account to another account. They’ll ask you to send the money to yourself to reverse the payment. Before sending money to yourself at another bank or credit union, make sure the email address or U.S. mobile number you’re using to send the money has been enrolled at the other financial institution and is linked to your account.
  3. Attempting to gain remote access to your devices. An unknown company or person will request remote access to your phone or computer. They may also ask you to download an app to fix an “issue,” which would allow them remote access and could expose your personal information.
  4. Fake websites. Legitimate-looking websites are being created by scammers, and a quick Google search will lead you to a real-looking phone number. When you call, they’ll try to obtain your sign-in details or other information. Always do the proper research before making a purchase online.

Protect yourself and your family.

is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7 April, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as other related organizations.

In 1948, the WHO held the First World Health Assembly. The Assembly decided to celebrate 7 April of each year, with effect from 1950, as the World Health Day. The World Health Day is held to mark WHO's founding and is seen as an opportunity by the organization to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year. The WHO organizes international, regional and local events on the Day related to a particular theme. World Health Day is acknowledged by various governments and non-governmental organizations with interests in public health issues, who also organize activities and highlight their support in media reports, such as the Global Health Council.

News about the Peace‑Creating Groups for Ukraine and Russia

As the war in Ukraine continues with tragic loss of life for both countries, our prayers are with the people of Ukraine and Russia for an end to war and a peaceful resolution.

There are now two World Peace Assemblies for those who practice the advanced TM-Sidhi® program, with 45 in the mountains of Western Ukraine and 80 in Russia. Travel restrictions and dangerous conditions make it difficult for more volunteers to join in Ukraine, but the numbers in Russia are increasing. All participants are safe and practicing the TM-Sidhi program comfortably, awakening the deep silence and coherence of the field of Transcendental Consciousness for themselves and their countries.

Donations to our GoFundMe campaign have made this possible. With over 1,300 donors from around the world, we have raised $250,000, in addition to $150,000 donated by our U.S. and international Transcendental Meditation organizations.

To supplement the peaceful influence these two groups are creating for the region, on March 12 we began a World Peace Assembly in Romania, which shares a 382-mile border with Ukraine. Practitioners of the TM-Sidhi program are coming from around the world, with 30 participants so far and 100 more applications. Your donations will help to provide scholarships through the end of April for those in need. We hope this Assembly will attract hundreds of volunteers to deliver a powerful effect of harmony and coherence.

To have the maximum calming impact, research shows that peace-creating groups should be the square root of 1% of a population. We believe that building toward this number—700 in Ukraine and 1,200 in Russia—will help to reduce tensions and enable a peaceful resolution.

NEXT US NATIONAL YAGYASM PERFORMANCE

APRIL 1 – APRIL 10

Nine Days of Mother Divine and the Birth of Raam

Last month, our US National Yagya included an appeal for a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Ukraine. We are not alone. More than a dozen countries are also directing their resources to Yagyas for Ukraine.

The situation remains precarious. If ever there was a need for the soothing and stabilizing effect of the Maharishi National Yagyas, it is now. Participation in these massive Vedic performances not only benefits the nation, but the donors and their honorees as well.

We need even bigger Yagyas

The next 11-day National Yagya for the USA will be performed during the Spring Nine Days of Mother Divine, Navaratri. The Yagya will continue through Raam Navami, celebrating the birth of Raam on April 10.

Mother Divine represents the unbounded creativity and supreme nourishing quality of Nature, while Raam represents infinite organizing power. Together, these fundamental aspects of Nature bring support and success to every endeavor and every field of life.

Our Maharishi JyotishSM Pandits emphasize that this is one of the most powerful periods in the Vedic calendar to sponsor a Yagya—when the Laws of Nature are liveliest for fulfillment of desires in all areas of life: success and prosperity, health and longevity, intelligence and enlightenment, and relief from fear.

The Sankalpa (intention) of the Yagya will be:

Coherence, harmony, health, prosperity and spiritual awakening

for the United States—and all its people and

Bringing healing, coherence, and peace

to all the people of the Ukraine and Russia region

At this especially critical time—for this especially critical cause—we hope that you will be more inspired than ever to give.

Please CLICK NOW to join in.

May the full power of Nature’s Creative Intelligence guide and uplift America, and may Maharishi’s legacy of peace and enlightenment permanently bless the human race.

9 Days of Mother Divine and Ram Navami - Auspicious for Special Yagyas - April 2-10

The 9 Days of Mother Divine, Navaratri, among the most auspicious days in the Vedic calendar, are from 2 - 10 April. During this time, Laws of Nature associated with enhanced well-being, spiritual progress, and good fortune are especially lively and accessible.

This is an ideal opportunity to have a Special Yagya performed — whether for Well-Being, a Birthday or an Anniversary. The Nine Days culminate on Ram Navami, 10 April which, along with the previous days, is a highly fortunate time for a Well-Being Yagya.

Applying for these Yagyas is very easy and can be done herePlease request your Yagya at least seven days in advance. To read more about the Special Yagyas please click here.

All proceeds from the Yagyas go towards supporting the Maharishi Vedic Pandits in India and are deeply appreciated.

Introductory Meeting on the TM Sidhi Program for Faculty, Staff and Students

April 8th 3:45 PM Dalby Hall

Culturing the ability to think and act from the level of pure consciousness

The Transcendental Meditation-Sidhi Program is a powerful tool to improve all aspects of life – your health, relationships, professional life, and the environment around you. It stabilizes and deepens the experience of Transcendental Consciousness that develops with regular Transcendental Meditation (TM) practice. The TM-Sidhi Program more powerfully clears the path to higher states of consciousness – ultimately allowing you to enjoy a life of total creativity, success, and fulfillment.

How does it work?

During Transcendental Meditation, the mind settles effortlessly and naturally to arrive at pure consciousness, the silent inner reservoir of creativity and intelligence that underlies all our mental activity. Numerous scientific studies have shown that during TM, brainwave functioning becomes orderly and coherent.

The TM-Sidhi Program takes your development even further by culturing the ability to not only arrive at pure consciousness, but also to think and act from this level of profound inner silence. The result is that your brain functioning becomes even more orderly, and thoughts and actions arise from this level. As a result, your thoughts and actions are increasingly powerful and effective, allowing you to more easily achieve your desires.

Take Your Experience to the Next Level with an Advanced Technique of the TM Program

Saturday April 2nd at the Maharishi Peace Palace

Application Meeting April 1st at 2PM

The purpose of Advanced Techniques is to take the experience to another, higher level. Advanced Techniques are like fertilizers; fertilizers bring better fruit to every tree. To enjoy greater achievement and fulfillment in life, take advantage of this beautiful program of Advanced Techniques to enrich the development of higher states of consciousness.” — Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Q: What are Advanced Techniques?

A: Like the TM technique, Advanced Techniques are easily-practiced mental techniques that accelerate personal growth. During TM, we experience a fourth state of consciousness, a state of restful alertness that dissolves stress, enhances brain functioning, and balances the body and emotions. Advanced Techniques speed up the integration of this state with our regular daily activity, bringing faster results from our TM practice.

Q: How many are there?

A: There are four Advanced Techniques brought to light by Maharishi in his Vedic Science and Technology, the Science and Technology of Consciousness. The first is practiced for a few minutes before going to sleep. The second, third, and fourth Advanced Techniques are effortlessly incorporated into your twice-daily TM practice.

Q: Do I learn them all at once or one at a time?

A: One at a time and in sequence. You’ll practice an Advanced Technique at least two to four months before adding the next one.

Q: Who teaches the Advanced Techniques?

A: Specially trained, highly experienced certified TM teacher Mario Orsatti has been teaching the TM technique since 1973 and the Advanced Technique courses for the last 4 years. He is the Executive Director of the Center for Health and Wellness at the David Lynch Foundation, where he oversees TM programs for government and military leaders in Washington, D.C., and for business executives in New York City. He will be present at each session for instruction and verification.

Q: Who can learn, and how do I know if I’m ready?

A: You must have practiced TM regularly, twice a day, for a minimum of the last two months to be eligible to apply for an Advanced Technique. Each technique is simple—easy to learn, easy to practice—and, best of all, enjoyable! That said, if you’d like our advice regarding your personal readiness, just give us a call.

Q: What is the course structure?

A: The course consists of three sessions:

  • First, an orientation meeting (1½ hours)
  • Second, personal instruction in the appropriate Advanced Technique (2–3 hours)
  • Third, a checking meeting the following day to answer questions and verify the correctness of your practice (2 hours)

Orientation: An orientation meeting is an opportunity to learn more about Advanced Techniques. It is free, and there is no obligation to take the course. But if you want to learn an Advanced Technique at this time, you must attend the orientation meeting and then fill out an application form. If the orientation meeting time does not work for you, let us know, and we will find another time to meet with you. Contact by email at wdevasier@tm.org or call 641-919-8188 or 641-919-1300.

Orientation: Friday, April 1st at 2:00 PM

Personal Instruction: Saturday, April 2nd

Checking Meeting: Sunday April 3rd at 9:30am & 11am

Join Us at the “Genius Lounge”

Welcome to the “Genius Lounge,” a new audio series with Bob Roth, CEO of the David Lynch Foundation, author of the NY Times bestseller, “Strength in Stillness,” and 50-year teacher of Transcendental Meditation®.

Why do we call it Genius Lounge?

This audio series focuses on the genius of nature, from microscopic to macroscopic, including the genius of the human brain and body. The name was inspired by brain researchers who have identified key networks within the brain that underlie and foster the creative process. One such network is the “Default Mode Network,” which has also been called the “Imagination Network” and the “Genius Lounge.” Innovation gets its start here—and the practice of Transcendental Meditation accelerates the process by strengthening the creative networks within the brain and by removing the restrictive impact of stress.

In each episode, Bob shares a few minutes of exciting research findings on the brain, ancient and modern insights into consciousness, and/or inspiration to live a healthier, happier life.

The Ukraine Crisis and the Power of Collective Consciousness: How We Can All Play a Role in Easing Global Tensions and Creating Lasting Peace 1:00:18

Panel discussion with (from left) Drs. Howard Settle, Candace Badgett, John Hagelin, and Bob Roth

National leaders of the TM program discuss the principle of collective consciousness and how defusing regional and global tensions is the first step toward lasting peace. Twenty‑three published studies have shown that TM practice, particularly in large groups, can alleviate societal stress and reduce conflict and violence through a “field effect” in collective consciousness—an influence of orderliness and calm that spreads throughout society.

In this special edition of TM Talks you can learn about:

  • The TM program’s worldwide peace‑creating initiative involving thousands of meditators on every continent.
  • The quantum physics explanation of “action at a distance” and how synchronized, twice‑daily TM practice exponentially increases our coherence‑creating influence.
  • America’s unique coherence‑creating role due to our large number of TM practitioners, and how we can increase that effect to help resolve the Ukraine crisis.
  • A new approach to peace based on an advanced understanding of human consciousness.

TM in the News

Originally published in the Winter + Spring 2021-22 issue

You’ve heard about the benefits of meditation, ranging from improved productivity to heart and gut health. Now, experts are closing in on how and why meditation works not just for you personally but for society as a whole.

In a new review article titled Neuroadaptability and Habit: Modern Medicine and Ayurveda, Dr. Robert Keith Wallace and Ted Wallace, both of Maharishi International University in Iowa, examined the effect of Transcendental Meditation (TM) on our ability to adapt to stress. Neuroadaptability describes the wide spectrum of physiological responses we have to stress. When you are first exposed to a stressor — let’s say, a deep stretch in yoga — your nervous system braces against it to protect you, but repeat the experience and you will build a neural pathway that recognizes the sensation as safe, and your response to it will lessen to it over time. You’ve adapted, which means you won’t find the repeat experience so challenging.

Your body has an extraordinary ability to maintain coherence under stress, but the authors of the article propose that stress diminishes this ability over time.

“Acute, short-term stress diverts our energy and attention towards survival mechanisms and causes problems with everything from gut health to anxiety and depression. Long-term, chronic stress seems to have an amazingly powerful effect on changing not only neuropathways but the basic expression of genres in the DNA, and there are certain areas of the brain that get completely modified to the point where it affects our ability to adapt to anything,” explains Dr. Keith Wallace, citing climate change and COVID as two chief factors accelerating this shift.

The 2020 Stress in America survey found nearly 80% of adults reported increased stress due to the pandemic. For a while, your body can usually metabolize stress hormones, but according to the law of diminishing returns, at a certain point your system becomes unable, or less able, to cope.

So, how does this impact society?

MARCH 17, 2022 BY KIT

The Beatles and India shared a symbiotic relationship in music and culture. As is well known, the group studied with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in February 1968, their time in Rishikesh inspiring much of the material comprising the White Album. Indian instruments such as the sitar and tambura figured on tracks such as “Norwegian Wood” and “Tomorrow Never Knows.”

George Harrison would begin his journey through Indian music and spiritualism with the Beatles, fusing Indian and Western sounds in such tracks as “Love You To” and “Within You Without You.” Today, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr still advocate for Transcendental Meditation.
